TIRANA, Jan. 27 – The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Water Administration celebrated on Saturday the 84th anniversary of the Albanian forest service appealing to every Albanian to plant as many trees as possible. ‘Every Albanian a tree” is the name of the new project that will start this year spending some 266 million leks, or one-third more than the last year. Authorities say that forest damage has decreased significantly following better cooperation between different government institutions. The Ministry said there was 28 percent less forest damage in 2006 compared to a year ago. Authorities have also sequestered 8,000 cubic meter cut illegally, or 32 percent more than a year ago.
