TIRANA, March 5 –  Environmental activists held a rally in Tirana on Sunday in protest against various constructions in protected tourist areas.

Their protests have now become a common sight on the Deshmoret e Kombit boulevard, but officials do not react to their demands.

Some civil society organizations and the Association of Patriotic Activists organized a march from Skanderbeg Square to the Prime Minister’s Office against the use of rivers and national parks from construction companies.

“The irreversible damages of the Albanian nature are happening rapidly, thanks to the construction permits that the current and the previous government have given,” said Arben Kola, organizer of the rally.

Protesters are trying to stop the irreversible destruction of Albanian nature government permits, private firms that violate laws and corrupt judges.

Protestant activists cited construction projects in the tourist areas of Theth, Valbona Valley, Luma River, Vjosa River, Koritnik Park, Divjaka Karavasta National Park, Shala River, and the Narta Lagoon.

They have been holding continuous protests over two months for these investments, which according to them are in complete violation of the laws of the Republic of Albania, such as in Valbona, Vjosa, Divjaka, in Shala and Narta.

Environmentalists also protest against the construction of several incinerators, which they believe have been set up to burn trash from abroad while taking a toll on Albanians’ health.
