TIRANA, Feb 8 – February will bring back to Albanian public the nostalgia of the French cinema of the 1950-1960s. The Central State Film Archive has selected to show four movies of this period which will be screened each Wednesday at the movie archive cinema to commemorate the 70s and 80s in Albania during the communist regime when French films were some of the few foreign productions that were not banned.
The event held in cooperation with the French embassy in Tirana opened last Wednesday with the screening of “Les amantes de Verona” (1963) directed by Andre Cayatte.
February 16 will bring “Maigret voil rouge,” another famous production of early 1960s directed by Gilles Grangier. The programme will close on February 23 with the screening of two other movies of the early 50s “Fanfan La Tulipe” by Christian Jaques and “Ombre et lumiere” by Henri Calef.
The movies precede the annual Francophone spring events held every March in Albania.
Last February, the Central State Film Archive cinema was dedicated to the screening of the best movies and documentaries by Albanian director Dhimiter Anagnosti.
