TIRANA, Aug. 28 – The Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre reported earlier this month that Albania is no longer considered to be in danger of wildfires which continue to rage throughout the region.

But the recent situation in the country shows that scores of fires sparked.

The report said, however, that the Albanian authorities had provided the following information:

The situation is under control. In addition to their fire-fighting efforts, the lower temperatures and the increased precipitation favorably influenced the situation.

Consequently, Albanian authorities have advised the EADRCC that, due to a return to normality, Albania would no longer require international assistance.

Albanian authorities have also expressed their thanks to all EAPC nations that provided them with support and indispensable assistance.

During the fires that engulfed the country, Albania had the following support offered or provided by EAPC nations, by country:

– The Ukrainian fire fighting aircraft, “Antonov 32,” operated from 27 July to 5 August.

– One Slovenian KFOR fire fighting helicopter operated from 30 July to 3 August.

– Two fire fighting helicopters with Bambi Buckets from two German private companies operated from 31 July to 5 August.

– Greece offered fire fighting equipment and fire fighting aerial operations.

– The Czech Republic offered fire protection equipment. The donation arrived to Albania on 1 August.

– Italy offered 2 Canadair, fire fighting CL 415 for two days. In addition, Italy has permanently deployed a “Canadair” at Tirana International Airport in order to support any further fire fighting activities.
