TIRANA, April 12 – Five Albanian songs have been selected to participate in the first edition of Balkan Music Award bringing together singers from 11 countries. Albania will be represented in this festival scheduled to be held next May in Bulgaria with young talented singers Flori Mumajesi, Mariza Ikonomi, Elvana Gjata, Soni Malaj and Genta Ismajli.
The prize award ceremony will be held on 16 May 2010 in Sofia, the festival’s organizers said on their website.
Several former Eurovision participants as well as national finalists have been nominated in the festival, whose organizers say will be held annually. The selected singers will compete for the best male/female artist, best band and video prizes.
Two weeks ago, the Balkanika Music Television officially announced the nominations for the first Balkan Music Awards in a ceremony held in Sofia.
This year’s award for exceptional contribution will go to the Greek music icon Anna Vissi. The award is given to artists who have contributed a lot to popularizing and promoting Balkan music around the world during their careers.
