BERAT, June 1 – Five persons were arrested after police found 65 kilograms of cannabis sativa they were trying to transport at the P쳭et-Berat road segment.
Police are investigating another person allegedly involved in the traffic.
On Monday Elidor Ilir Xhiku, 24, was arrested in capital Tirana to continue serving his prison term for drug trafficking. Xhiku has still to serve 18 months of imprisonment. In 2009 he was sentenced to three years and four months imnprisonment for trafficking drugs.
Authorities are trying hard to fight drug trafficking following pressure from the European Union, where the country hopes to become a member one day
