TIRANA, May 21 – A piano album with Albanian folk motifs was promoted last weekend on the World Cultural Diversity Day to educate younger generations with folk values of different previous Albanian groups and individuals. The book called “Agoj” was promoted in a ceremony organized at the premises of the Ministry of Culture. This publication precedes a series of legal initiatives the ministry is undertaking under the Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions as a member country since November 2006, said the ministry in a statement.
Culture Minister Ferdinand Xhaferaj said family traditions, customs, rites or religious practices were all part of the Albanian culture and the protection of their diversity and transmission to future generations was a duty and unique mission the ministry has undertaken to further develop.
Xhaferaj announced the ministry was working to draft a strategy and action plan on cultural diversity.
The event closed with some piano performances by students of the arts high school in Tirana and instrumental parts performed by the orchestra of the National Ensemble of Folk Songs and Dances.
May 21 was proclaimed by UNSECO as the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development in 2001.
The Day provides an opportunity to deepen understanding of the values of cultural diversity and to learn to “live together” better. UNESCO continues to promote greater awareness of the crucial relationship between culture and development and the important role of information and communication technologies in this relationship.
