Foreign investors meet with Berisha, express interest in building small power plants

TIRANA, July.23- Several representatives from foreign firms interested in building and operating small hydroelectric units in Albania have met with Prime Minister Berisha. The first meeting was with Macedonian firm Deboj- Tron’s representative, Georgi Georgieski, who presented his company’s interest in building over the Mata dn Vjose Rivers, where they have carried out past studies as well. Prime Minister Berisha acquainted Georgieski with the law on concessions in Albania and has asked for the quickening of the applications, given that the interest in the hydroelectricity has increased.

The second meeting was with the Greek firm ITA, which has already opened its branch in Albania under the name Linkchart Albania. Their president, Anthony E. Gerassimou, has presented during his meeting with the Prime Minister three important projects. The first one is in collaboration with the Chinese company Boading Tianwei Group, and consists of building a small thermo-power unit in Cerrik, with a capacity of 600 mega-watts and operated by coal. The second project regards another thermopower unit operated by biodiesel, and the final one consists of building greenhouses for energy producing plants.
