Four coalitions registered for June 28 polls

TIRANA, May 17 – Albanian politics registered its coalitions that are to run for the June 28 parliamentary elections.
Twenty-six political parties grouped in four coalitions that are to run in the general elections in Albania, according to the Central Election Commission.
The ruling Democratic Party leads the coalition “Alliance for Change” that brings together ten parties, including the ethnic minority Macedonian Party, which will represent for the first time the Macedonian minority’s interest in the Albanian parliament.
The other right-wing faction is lead by the Christian Democratic Party.
The opposition Socialist Party has five allies, joined in the coalition “Union for the Change”, whereas the Socialist Movement for Integration heads the “Socialist Alliance” group.
The main two contenders in the political contest will be the Democratic Party of Albania of Prime Minister Sali Berisha and the Socialist Party of Albania of Tirana Mayor Edi Rama.
