Gazmend Leka displays Icarus cycle at Zeta gallery

TIRANA, Jan. 22 – Gazmend Leka, a veteran painter and professor at the Academy of Arts in Tirana, is displaying his latest cycle of paintings in a solo exhibition at the Zeta Art Gallery in Tirana. Leka, 61, was the winner of the Onufri 2010 visual arts competition with his “Lost Paradise” painting.
He has participated in dozens of solo and collective exhibitions in Albania and abroad.
The artist is featured in the exhibition with nine painting which belong to a cycle the author has named Icarus, which in Greek mythology is the son of the master of craftsman Daedalus and known for his attempt to escape from Crete by means of wings that his father constructed from feathers and wax.
“This is a cycle of air accidents and is composed of nine paintings. These are paintings where events take place not as in the consecutive weekdays from Monday to Sunday, but seven states the human being goes through with failures and successes,” says Leka.
The exhibition at the Zeta gallery will remain open until February 8
