TIRANA, Oct 28 – Grigol Mgaloblishvili, Georgian ambassador covering Albania, was nominated by his president Mikhail Saakashvili in the post of the prime minister after he discharged the previous one.
Mgaloblishvili, 35, is to replace Lado Gurgenidze who served for a short term and was fired without any clear explanation.
Sakashvili has proposed the ambassador, based in Turkey but also covering Albania, Mgaloblishvili for the post, a move that should be normally voted by the parliament in Tbilisi.
The outgoing premier, Vladimir Gurgenizde, was appointed in November 2007 after a series of anti-government protests. Saakashvili said Gurgenizde would now head a government finance commission.
Parliament needs to approve Georgia’s ambassador to Turkey, 35-year-old Grigol Mgaloblishvili, before his appointment can take effect.
Mgaloblishvili has graduated post-university studies at the Oxford and has studied on oriental issues.
