Oct.23-28, ‘’Liked, shared, deceived- how can I recognize and detect Fake News?’’ workshop

At ‘Aleksander Xhuvani’ University in Elbasan

Fake News has turned into a daily topic for social media users, as social media is being used more frequently. However, Fake News aren’t just fabricated articles that fool everyone, but the more dangerous are the carefully composed manipulative pieces that consist of texts, pictures or videos, that easily spread on social media and that are difficult to detect or debunk.

The workshop participants will learn what Fake News is and how to detect them. They will compile their own unharmful fake news in an experiment, to closely understand how they function and spreak in social media, Facebook especially.

At Cineplexx Cinema in TEG, 7 p.m.

In the middle of the 19th century, Giorgio is sold to the city of Milan to work as a chimney sweep. He makes friends with several other kids, and together they create ‘’the black brothers’’ association, in their struggle against their penury and street gangs. A film of adventures, friendship and a spectacular escape to homeland.

Oct. 25, Screening of ‘’Aziz’’ film by Luljeta Progni

At Kinema Millenium in Tirana, 5 p.m.

The setting of the film is in the concentration camps during the communist persecution of the newly set regime in albania. It focuses on the story of Aziz, a survivor, and memoirs of others. The film doesn’t change names or stories, but it tries to be as loyal to the confessions of the people that lived the camps. The dialogue comes from the memories and artefacts studied. The drama ends with a hopeful event, the birth of the first child in deportation, which the character calls it lost hope instead.

‘’The film discovers that which has been hidden by Albanian rulers for 70 years; the communist terror against innocent Albanians: women, children, elderly. What the film does, is putting the camera in the years 1948-1954, in some of the most notorious camps: Kucove, Berat, Turan and Tepelene, adding or removing nothing from the truth,’’ said Luljeta Progni, the film’s screenwriter and producer.

Reminder on the last sessions of ‘’I have a dream’’ with writer Sandra Hoffmann on Oct. 23 at Tirana Times Library, 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., and Oct. 25 at Tirana Times Library, 6 p.m..
