TIRANA, Aug. 16 – Bernd Borchardt has been appointed Germany’s new ambassador to Albania.
Borchardt, 52, was born in Bottrop in 1955.
Borchardt graduated with a degree in psychology from The Munster University and immediately afterwards was involved foreign service.
From 1981 to1983 he took part at a preparatory training course of the Federal Germany and became a referent at the foreign ministry for the Nordic countries.
During the period 1986 – 1989 he was vice ambassador to Conakry and then kept the same post in Mogadishu.
During 1990 – 1992 he was a political attach顩n Pretoria, South Africa and then in 1992 – 1994 vice ambassador in Tallinn, Estonia.
Following that he returned home and served as deputy head of the southeastern European countries’ department at the foreign ministry to continue as deputy head of the OSCE verification mission to Kosova.
He continued during 1999 – 2002 as vice ambassador to Bucharest, Romania and then back again at the foreign ministry as the reference head of foreign ties with EU. During 2003 – 2006 he was promoted as referent head of southern Asia at the foreign ministry to continue as deputy head for the Asian department at the foreign ministry.
