TIRANA, Dec. 22 – Considered one of the greatest Romantic ballets, Giselle, a ballet by Adolphe Adam, is being staged as a premiere at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tirana 13 years after its last performance. Choreographed by Albanian maestro Agron Aliaj, the ballet brings on the Opera House stage Prima Ballerina Enada Hoxha and her husband Gerd Vaso.
Odeta Dishnica, Evis Nallbani and Dion Gjinika also star in the gala performance being staged for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“The ballet dancers have worked with great commitment. You’ll see new talents that are surprisingly never missing in Albania, but who need to be supported and love working. Even from the youngsters of the ballet school, I experienced some youthful inner energy. That’s why, I am convinced this will be a great performance,” said maestro Aliaj.
Originally choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, Giselle was first presented by the Ballet du Thꣴre de l’Acadꮩe Royale de Musique, Paris, France, on June 28, 1841.
Giselle is a ballet by Adolphe Adam. It consists of two acts, two scenes, with a libretto by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Th갰hile Gautier.
“Giselle is naive, vulnerable, innocent, in love, in despair, mad, forgiving and self-sacrificing … and more. Albtrecht is an insensitive, selfish man who realises too late that he has both fallen in love and destroyed the object of his love; he shows contrition, courage and even understanding of what happens to him and around him. The supporting characters of Hilarion and Mirtha also have had wide dramatic roles, too,” says the ballet’s official website.
