Newest MP Eduart Ndocaj promised some time ago that he will find a way to turn the house of Gjergj Fishta into a museum. “The state of Gjergj Fishta house is a disaster because for years the place has not been well maintained. We are fortunate that this house has physically come down to nowadays, considering that the remains of Gjergj Fishta have been spilled in the river,” Ndocaj said.
Describing the figure of Fishta as colossal, universal, and unique in its kind, Ndocaj said that he considers the writer as “the Dante of Albania and Albanian language, especially the Gheg one. In his verses and his descriptions he has left us an anthropological and unique description of the Albanians, their characteristics and their habits.”
A few days ago, the newest MP held a meeting in Kosovo with Sabri Maxhuni Novosela, who offered his support to turn the house of Gjergj Fishta into a museum. The project, which will help re-establish the figure of Fishta, was also made possible through cooperation with Paulin Zefi, former Director of Monuments of Culture in Lezha, and the support of the Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro.
“He also was a wonderful historian, writing our story during the time he lived with details and with the names of people of that time,” added Ndokaj concluding that he will do anything he can to turn Fishta’s house into a museum.
Born on October 23, 1871 Gjergj Fishta was an Albanian poet and a translator. He was the chairman of the Congress of Monastir commission, which sanctioned the Albanian alphabet. In 1921 Fishta became the Vice President of the Albanian parliament, while in 1937, he published his masterpiece Lahuta e Malcis.
