TIRANA, May 18 – Lawmakers from the governing Democratic Party have consistently called for a government reshuffle by their Prime Minister, Sali Berisha.
Lawmaker Prec Zogaj said last weekend that changes were necessary, not only due to concerns by the public over corruption, as reflected in different polls and institution, but also to give a new start to the government.
Zogaj said the drive for a reshuffle has much support among those who support the existing government, but remain opposed to individual ministers.
Berisha hinted he could begin a government reshuffle after the NATO summit in April, however, nothing happened. Berisha has yet to replace his former deputy, who moved to the defense minister’s post following the Gerdec March 15 tragedy.
Besides some of his coalition partners, such as the Christian Democrats, are in the midst of internal fighting that have resulted in more voices asking for change of ministers.
