BERAT, Sep. 9 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha said that the government would soon decide whether to approve the construction of a new thermo power plant in Porto Romano, following construction in Vlora.
Berisha acknowledged that the energy crisis is serious and it was harming economy. He also tried to assure that his executive was taking steps to change the existing situation.
The prime minister said that authorities were making efforts to import as much as electricity as possible, up to 10-12 million kWh, and at the same time they were urging the building of thermo power plants such as in Vlora.
Sketchy information about a new power plant in Porto Romano is that it would double the capacity of the Vlora plant, though Berisha did not give additional information.
The premier also urged private businessmen in Berat to consider building a diesel thermo power plant in their district that would cost only 18 million euros.
