TIRANA, June 13 – The Albanian government has collected about €11 million from the renewal of Vodafone’s initial 15-year licence for its Albania services, says the country’s electronic communications regulator, AKEP.
The watchdog says Vodafone Albania, part of UK-based Vodafone, paid €10.9 million to have its licence renewed for another 15 years, a similar amount compared to what Telekom Albania (former AMC) paid in January 2015.
Fifteen years after entering Albania, Vodafone has turned into the leading mobile operator in Albania with a market share of about 50 percent.
Back in 2015, Albania became the second country in Europe to launch the Vodafone M-Pesa service, a mobile payment solution to send money to friends and family, pay bills, buy airtime, in a safe, fast, affordable way in the country.
