TIRANA, March 31 – Greek media reported that two policemen and two bodyguards were sacked for their alleged involvement in the torture and humiliation of two Albanian detainees in Athens two years ago.
A police disciplinary council found the two officers guilty of torturing the detainees and the other two policemen of failing to intervene and stop the abuse. The case was made public last summer when a video of the abuse circulated on the internet.
The video was recorded on a cell phone owned by an officer at the Omonia police station.
It showed how a plainclothes policeman forced the detainees to hit each other. Besides losing their jobs, the four also face a criminal trial. (Tirana Times Staff)
