TIRANA, July 30 – Albania’s High State Audit has uncovered around 16 billion lek (Euro 112 million) in abuses by central and local government institutions during controls carried out in the first four months of this year. Controls unveiled 15.7 billion lek (€109 million) in financial violations on income and spending and around 400 million lek (€2.8 million) in financial discipline violations during the 2012-2014 activity of the audited institutions.

The majority of violations, some 11.6 billion lek (€81 mln) was uncovered in the tax sector, the overwhelming majority of which in the National Agency for Natural Resources which monitors oil concessions and abuses with fuel mixing.

Some 11 people, mostly local government officials have been sued for the damage.
