TIRANA, June 16 – The government made another serious effort to gain more support ahead of the June 28 parliamentary elections – it raised the salaries of all the medical personnel throughout the country, especially those working in the remote areas in the countryside.
Starting from May 1 this year the average salary of a doctor working in the countryside will be some 60,000 leks per month. It may reach 79,000 leks in remote areas. The total cost to the government budget for some 10,000 persons in the health system will be 307 million leks annually.
Even nurses will have a 13 percent increase of their salary from 28,000 to 32,000 leks per month.
