TIRANA, June 28 – After voting ended both Prime Minister Sali Berisha and main opposition leader Edi Rama hailed Albanians for turning out in larger numbers.
Berisha said preliminary figures showed turnout would be 15 percentage points higher than the 49 percent recorded four years ago.
There was a persistent clamor all day by many leaders in the country, including international officials, that Albanians go and vote.
There was not an official figure but there were indications that there may have been more than 1.4 million ballots cast by Albanians this election.
