Located in the Southern Albania, the decision to protect the areas will be implemented by the Ministry of Culture and The Ministry of Urban Development, according to the law on Cultural Heritage. Among the objects that will be protected are various churches, monasteries, as well as the Himara castle.

The request to protect the above mentioned areas was initially proposed by the Ministry of Culture, which for some time had suggested that Vuno, Dhermi, and Himara must be protected due to receiving high number of visitors during the summer season.

The Villages of Vuno and Dhermi are two of the most visited villages in the Southern Albania by tourist from all over the world. The city of Himara is also very busy during the summer season because a lot of locals, as well as foreigners choose Himara to spend their summer holidays.

Lying between the Ceraunian Mountains and the Ionian Sea, the villages of Pilur, Kudhes, Qeparo, Ilias, and Palasa are also part of the region of Himara, which is predominantly populated by an ethnic  Greek community.
