TIRANA, April 26 – Police in the southwestern port city of Vlora arrested five persons accused of human trafficking. Two other persons are being sought for working with them.
The five, residents in the southern town of Saranda, were paid to assist persons trying to illegally cross into Greece and, further, to Western Europe. Police say they gathered persons hoping to be smuggled across borders from throughout the country.
Another group of human traffickers was arrested in the cities of Fier and Vlora. Eight persons were charged with assisting in the illegal trafficking of people. They mainly solicited persons in their two districts and brought them to the Saranda district to cross at the Konispol border point. They were paid 800-1,500 Euros per person, according to police.
