TIRANA, July 28 – Henrik Ibsen Peer Gynt, a pan-Albanian co-production of the Tirana, Prishtina and Skopje theatres will be performed in Tirana next October after having its premiere at the Butrint theatre festival held from July 17 to 21.
The play directed by Macedonia’s Slobodan Unkovski is the first pan-Albanian production bringing together 20 actors including Bajrush Mjaku, Yllka Mujo, Albulena Kryeziu, Adrian Morina etc.
“Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen – first time in Albanian language” is a Balkan regional project of Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo which won the 2009 International Ibsen Scholarship.
Under the project, Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt was staged for the first time in the Albanian language and the performance staged over three acts located in three different countries. The first act, presenting the young Peer Gynt, was staged in Tirana, Albania directed by an Albanian director. The second act, presenting Peer Gynt in his twenties, was staged in Pristine, Kosovo and the third act, the middle aged Peer, in Skopje, Macedonia. The three parts, directed by different directors in different locations in 3 countries, together made a whole theatre performance, supervised by Slobodan Unkovski (Skopje).
And the hole play will be performed both in the Albanian Theatre in Skopje, Macedonia, the National theatre in Pristine, Kososvo, as well as in the National theatre in Tirana, Albania – five times at each theatre.
The production involves actors, directors, producers and costume designers from Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Serbia and Slovenia.
Director Slobodan Unkovski said “Peer Gynt is one of the most significant works of world literature, adding that the idea of three actors playing the leading role “turned out excellent”.
