TIRANA, Dec.24- Gerwin Bell of the International Monetary Fund, in an interview with the Voice of America, described some of the main problems that the administration should address at the end of this year. One of them seems to be the irregularities in the contract for the Durres-Kukes road, the largest infrastructure project ever proposed in the post transition period. According to the IMF expert, the road was not part of a competitive scheme in which many offers would strive to reach the most competitive cost. The construction of this road entails a huge financial risk for the country since, it burden the public debt.
Another identified problem that has often been criticized by the IMF is the financial situation of the Albanian Electro energy corporation KESH. The IMF has repeatedly argued that KESH should be self-sustainable instead of relying on state finances.
