TIRANA, June 22 – The Interior Ministry said that it would supply the Central Electoral Commission with all types of lists it had referring to the voters.
The ministry said that 1.4 million citizens had applied for the new identity cards which could be used for the voting, together with passports.
The ministry also said lists of persons that had applied for the IDs, those who had taken it, and the list of non-passport holders would be handed also to the political parties.
That has been a long held request by the opposition, which claims that the government of the Democratic Party could exploit the situation and manipulate the voting.
They say that hundreds of thousands of Albanians will be deprived of their vote because they can not be equipped with the new identity card, and they had also no passport.
The ministry and also the opposition parties called on all people who had applied for the ID to go and pick them up.
