TIRANA, Feb 17 – The Steering Committee of PAMECA III held a meeting Tuesday in Tirana attended by Interior Minister Bujar Nishani, British Minister of State for Crime and Policing, Vernon Coaker MP, and senior officials from the UK and Austria. PAMECA III is an EU-funded police assistance project, implemented by the UK and Austrian Governments.
In the framework of implementing the three-year plan “PAMECA III,” the meeting assessed the achievements of the last project for the 6-month period (September 2008-February 2009).
PAMECA III tries to bring the work of the Albanian State Police closer to European Union standards.
Nishani said it had helped improve appropriate police management in human, financial and technical resources. It has also provided assistance to all working groups for normative acts and administrative law for the state police.
“The mission has created a stable basis for achievement of goals and activities specific to the reporting period. It has helped develop some of the main documents of which these activities are developed like the annual analysis for 2008 and the strategic plan for 2009, the start of the DATACOM and a stable infrastructure,” according to the minister.
The Assistance for Border and Migration Police has been of special importance to the Albanian police, while the country is also negotiating with the European Union in regards to facilitating the visa procedure for his citizens.
Activities related to the fight against organized crime and terrorism have had significant support from the PAMECA III mission.
