TIRANA, May 28 – Internationally renowned Albanian soprano Inva Mula is returning to the Opera House with a special show as a director and lead performer with a message to stop violence against women.

The veteran Albanian soprano will be the director and lead performer in Pagliacci, an opera in two acts by Italy’s Ruggero Leoncavallo which is coming as a premiere in Albania.

“This is an opera which has always intrigued me because it resembles a movie and an event in no time and place. Being always updated to the issues of concern in Albania, I wanted to come with a project which does not only spark aesthetic pleasure to the public, but which is also felt on the streets of our city,” says Mula.

Speaking about the message she wants to convey, the 52-year-old soprano says “We are still in a stage when women are violated and with this work we want to say stop to violence against women. Let us not just limit ourselves to a show of 70 minutes, but bring strong messages,” says Mula.

The internationally soprano will be performing as Nedda, whom she describes as a woman who loves life but lives it under pressure from her jealous husband.

“Nedda is sensual, playful, fragile and tough, a sinner and a victim. For an artist, it is one of the most beautiful and interesting roles to perform,” she says.

The opera which will also feature some foreign performers and an Italian conductor is scheduled to be performed on May 31, June 1 and 2 at 20:00 at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tirana.

The opera comes soon after the veteran soprano gave a concert at the ancient city of Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992 as part of celebrations marking Europe Day in Albania.

Back in 2014, internationally renowned Albanian soprano Inva Mula was accepted as a fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science for her distinction in art and remarkable international accomplishments.

Born in Albania, to an artist family, Mula graduated as a soprano singer from the Academy of Arts, Tirana. In 1992, she moved to Paris, France, and has been there ever since. She is considered one of today’s great sopranos for her capacity to move from the Italian bel canto roles to the roles of French heroines. She reached a peak in her career in the 2009/10 season at the Paris Opera playing the role of Mirelle in Mireille by Gounod.
