TIRANA, May 7 – Internationally renowned Albanian soprano Inva Mula will be the special guest of this year’s Europe Day celebrations in Albania which will be marked with a concert at ancient city of Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992 situated in southern most district of Saranda.
Mula will be accompanied by the chorus and the orchestra of the National Theatre of Opera for her Saturday evening concert on May 9, when the European Union celebrates peace and unity on “Europe Day.”
Visiting Saranda, EU ambassador to Albania Romana Vlahutin said “the purpose of this visit is the celebration that will be held on Europe Day. A festive concert will be organized in the ancient city of Butrint. We have decided to organize a concert featuring the great soprano, Inva Mula, and I think that it’s going to be an excellent event.”
Inhabited since prehistoric times, Butrint has been the site of a Greek colony, a Roman city and a bishopric.
The event marks the anniversary of the day in 1950 when Robert Schuman, one of the founders of the EU, made his ‘Schuman Declaration’, outlining a vision to unite separate European states into a single community.
Back in 2014, internationally renowned Albanian soprano Inva Mula was accepted as a fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science for her distinction in art and remarkable international accomplishments.
Born in Albania, to an artist family, Mula graduated as a soprano singer from the Academy of Arts, Tirana. In 1992, she moved to Paris, France, and has been there ever since.
