IPA funds for cross border cooperation to total 4 million Euros

TIRANA, June.25- Macedonia and Albania are qualified to apply next year for a 4 million euros allotted under European Commission’s pre-accession funds. The funding is envisaged for cross border social and economic development, with EUR 2.5 million provided for projects in Macedonia . EU experts have initiated training at the International Conference in Ohrid on Saturday. Last week the EC approved the financial assistance strategy for the remaining candidate-countries Croatia and Turkey, as well as for the potential candidates BiH , Serbia , Montenegro , Kosovo and Albania .
The funds have been allocated as part of the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance, or IPA. The target areas for the funding are to aid in widening the rule of law, as well as economic and social development and the adoption of the acquis.
