Italian Airline Myair Starts Bari-Tirana Flights

TIRANA, Nov. 20 – An Italian low-cost airline, Myair, announced through Tirana’s Mother Teresa Airport officials that it has started flights from Bari to Tirana. Myair will fly from the southern Italian city of Bari to Albania’s capital Tirana three times a week. The company will use its 168-seat Airbus A-320 for this purpose. Tirana international airport said in a statement that the first flight was already done on Friday. With this new flight, the number of international destinations that can be reached from Tirana reaches 25. There are 14 companies that fly through the Rinas Airport, and Myar joins the category of the low cost ones which includes also Belleair, AlpiEagles and Clubair.
Albania’s only passenger airport is located some 25 km northwest of the capital Tirana, For the first three quarters of 2006, it handled 691,504 passengers, an increase of 13 percent compared to last year. The German-U.S. consortium Tirana Airport Partners (TAP) was granted a 20-year build-own-operate-transfer concession on the airport under which it would invest 83 million euro ($106.47 million) to increase its capacity. The consortium is currently realizing a 50 million euro investment in building a passenger terminal with an initial annual capacity of one million people and an air cargo centre with a 4,500 tons capacity per year. The project is due next spring.
