Italian senators in Albania ahead of NATO summit

TIRANA, March 16 – A delegation of the Italian Senate _ headed by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO Sergio De Gregorio, accompanied by the Italian former Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Foreign Committee of the Italian Senate Lamberto Dini, and the Former Chairman of the Italian Senate Franco Marini _ made a visit to Tirana ahead of the NATO summit where Albania hopes to become a new member to meet with all local top officials.
During the meeting they learnt about Albania’s domestic developments, consolidation of economic and political reforms and further steps made towards the country’s European integration.
Italy has played a key role in Albania’s integration efforts into NATO and the European Union and is considered as a main partner.
Italy is Albania’s first economic partner in export and import as well.
They also discussed developments in the region hailing Albania’s moderate role in the Western Balkan region, as a factor of peace, stability and moderation in its efforts for the full-fledged European and Euro – Atlantic integration of the whole region.
