TIRANA, Nov. 19 – Italian Health Minister Livia Turco visited Albania this week pledging further support to the tiny Balkan country’s health service.
Turco and her Albanian counterpart Nard Ndoka signed a bilateral agreement between the two countries following that of 1999.
The new agreement provides for a commitment of the parties to facilitate the exchange of information and documentation in the field of health, promotion of contacts between schools, hospitals and other bodies working in the field of health in the two countries, exchange of information on new equipment, pharmaceuticals and technological developments and medical sciences.
The agreement provides for the exchange of information on conferences and symposiums that discuss such topics. The two countries will also exchange delegations and health personnel, hold joint projects of research, development, technical assistance and training, including in multilateral cooperation projects.
The new agreement will cover the following issues: promoting best levels and health care for the entire Albanian population, development of emergency services and prevention HIV-Aids, epidemiological alert systems for the control of pandemics; assessment of behavioral and environmental factors which determine the prevention and control of chronic diseases, promoting health of the mother and child and training of health personnel.
