TIRANA, June 8 – The Marseglia Group based in Monopoli, Italy, has entered into an agreement with the government of Albania to develop a $1.3 billion energy park in Lezhe, near the Adriatic coast in northern Albania, according to the Industrial Info Resources based in Sugar Land, Texas, that conducted the research.
The project will include, among other facilities, a renewable energy plant fueled by liquid biomass or biodiesel, with an installed power generation capacity of 140 megawatts (MW).
Marseglia will also develop two 234-MW wind farms in the region.
In January Albania signed a euro1 billion ($1.3 billion) project with Italy’s Marseglia Group to build an energy park.
It was then said that the Italian company will build a 140-megawatt liquid biomass energy plant and two 234-megawatt wind farms.
The deal also provides for an undersea power link between Italy and Albania and convertor substations in the Lezha district, 100 kilometers north of the capital Tirana.
It is not clear when construction will start.
The electricity will be mainly sold to the Italian market and Albania may get some of that at a lower rate.
In December, Albania signed two major energy contracts worth euro2 billion with two other Italian companies for a wind farm and a gas-powered electricity plant.
