The sixteenth edition of the International Visual Arts Exhibition “Onufri 2009: Evidence and Desire” will include only Albanian artists. “It seemed that the presence of foreign artists obscured the current landscape of Albanian art,” says curator Parid Teferi詮
This year’s edition will not have a specific theme, demanding a change in the usual view of the exhibition which most of the time is seen as a theoretical clich顯f visual art.
“Onufri 2009” is a detailed investigation of the stage and backstage of Albanian visual art. “Onufri ’09: Evidence and Desire” reflects the real artistic product of a problematic as well as maturing area.
Students of the Academy of Fine Arts will participate at the exhibition without being able to compete for an award. This selection is entrusted to artist Gentian Shkurti, who has already selected three young artists – Donika ȩno, Entela Hoxha and Soni Dyrmishi – to exhibit alongside well-known Albanian artists.
The exhibition opens on December 24 at the National Gallery of Arts. There are about 20 artists participating, divided into three categories: experienced visual artists known for their unique style, young artists living abroad and students of the Academy of Arts who will bring new ideas to the exhibition.
The exhibition will run from December 24th till February 4th.
