JICA to continue development support to Albania

TIRANA, May 31 – The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has reconfirmed its development support to Albania. In a seminar held in Tirana this week, JICA Balkan Office Chief Representative, Toshiya Abe said the Japanese agency has been extending its assistance in Albania by supporting the social and economic capital, nurturing economic growth and encouraging environmental conservation, all towards the objective of attaining human security and sustainable economic development.

JICA has provided assistance to Albania, through its cooperation schemes, in the areas of infrastructure development, agriculture, medical care, education, private sector development and the environment. The Japanese government’s agency current priorities in Albania are related to the environmental sector and balanced development including private sector, tourism and local industry development.

Economy Minister Milva Ekonomi praised JICA’s assistance in human resources and development projects.

“Japan is a friendly country that offers a precious and sincere assistance. Since many years, through the invitation of this country, several hundreds of specialists of public administration have been trained in Japan, for some of the most important sectors of country’s development. Today we consider this, as priceless contribution that this friendly country has given, in a unique manner, for the enhancement of the human and professional capacities of the administration officers and public servants in Albania,” said Ekonomi, also praising Japan’s contribution to various sectors such as agriculture, health, infrastructure, education and environment.
