Jobless rate slightly increases to 17.5%

TIRANA, Dec. 16 – Albania’s unemployment rate slightly rose to 17.5 percent in the third quarter of 2015, up from 17.3 percent in the second quarter and 17.4 percent a year ago, according to a report by state statistical institute, INSTAT.

Meanwhile, youth unemployment slightly dropped to 32.2 percent, down from a historic high of 34.2 percent in the second quarter of the year.

According to a labor force survey, some 226,281 people aged 15 to 64 years old were actively looking for a job in the third quarter of the year.

INSTAT reports agriculture employed 40 percent of people in the third quarter of the year, followed by market services with 24 percent, the public sector with 17 percent and the processing industry with 9 percent.
