TIRANA, Dec. 17 – Despite the grave energy crisis in the country, the Albanian Electro-Energy Corporation, KESH, said Monday that it has been supplying power to neighboring Kosova due to its problems with electricity transmission during the last months from Serbia.
A senior manager, Remzi Shahini said KESH had been supplying 120 MWh, but he said this power was not sold but, rather, given in a form that would be ‘paid back’ in electricity from Kosova. Such an amount is very significant, taking into consideration that Albania has been importing up to 10 million kWh daily to cope with the energy crisis. Observers believe the decision to provide energy to Kosova is more a political one, rather than a normal procedure between the two power corporations.
Albanian citizens are currently having to endure up to 17 hours of power cuts per day.
