TIRANA, Dec. 18 – Internationally renowned Albanian ballet dancer Kledi Kadiu has been handed the “European personality of the year” award by the Municipality of Rome for his successful career as a dancer and choreographer and social awareness.
“I am happy for this award which pays tribute even to Albania and its ballet school and my commitment to social issues,” says Kadiu, who has been living in Italy since the early 1990s when the communist regime had just collapsed.
Kadiu, who has recently also served as Italy’s Goodwill UNICEF ambassador, made his name as dancer in Italy by participating in TV shows and founding his own dance school.
Back in 2012 he was awarded the “Great Master” presidential order as a “talented dancer, educated in the Albanian art school, that with his masterful performance has become one of the well-known artists in Italy, playing an important role in improving the image of Albania abroad.”
