TIRANA, Dec. 18 – Albania’s President Bamir Topi revealed Tuesday that all Albania’s institutions and officials dedicate at least half of their work to the Kosova status process at this important moment. “I assure you that more than half of the time at disposal in all international meetings is committed to the Kosova issue with much preoccupation and motivation,” said the president during an appearance on a talk show with local television channel News 24. “There is no element that would compensate the stand for Kosova’s independence,” said Topi, repeating Tirana’s opinion that Kosova’s independence would bring peace and stability to the whole region and beyond.
The president considered that a historic process would happen very soon, though he gave no timing on that. He also added that a decision on independence would be made in full cooperation with the United States and the European Union.
The EU is near the synchronization en bloc for a stance on Kosova’s independence, according to Topi. “Nowadays, Kosova’s independence is indisputable,” he said. “Kosova’s issue is taking the desired way.” He hailed the fact that Kosovar President Fatmir Sejdiu will speak at the U.N. Security Council, “an element that Kosova is heard as an institutional voice even at the Security Council.” “The status of Kosova’s independence has been drafted. It is important that Kosovar leaders are behaving in a very civilized way and are the main protagonists and interlocutors to the western partners,” he said. Topi praised the way the Kosovar political class behaved in its November 17 elections “showing to the west the standards of the highest institution which is the institution of elections.”
“I believe realistically that it is a matter of days until Kosova gains wider international support for its independence status,” said Topi. Like every Albanian official, Topi also said that Kosova’s independence would “contribute not only to Balkan stability but also to the dream of the Balkan countries to be part of the European family in the future.”(Tirana Times Staff)
