TIRANA, March 11 – Albania’s National Restoration Council led by Culture Minister Mirela Kumbaro has cancelled a decision on the revitalization of 15th century Lezha castle which envisaged the rent of castle facilities to a private company for recreational purposes over legal violations in the selection process.
“This project was not drafted in the frame of the revitalization procedure envisaged by legislation in force and the Restoration Charter at a time when the inner territory is evaluated as underground with great archeology potential,” said the Culture Ministry, describing the tender process as fictitious.
The ministry says the decision made in May 2013 did not represent the will and the decision-making of the National Restoration Council.
