TIRANA, Jan. 21 – The central western town of Lushnje has commemorated the 95th anniversary of its famous congress which in 1920 reconfirmed Albania’s full independence, with a restored museum house and three artworks.

An eagle monument along with two busts dedicated to Sulejman Delvina, the Prime Minister elected from the Congress and Ibrahim Sheh Karbunara, one of the initiators of the Congress were unveiled in the ceremony.

“We managed to restore the Congress house, which is a symbol of pan-national unity, harmony and hospitality of the Lushnja for the Congress delegates,” said Tourism Minister Eglantina Gjermeni, describing the Lushnja Congress as one of the most important events after the declaration of the country’s independence in 1912.

The Lushnje Congress was held in January 1920, in a very delicate moment for the independence of Albania. The Congress reconfirmed the independence and chose the Albanian representatives to the Peace Conference in Versailles, Paris, and elected the four Supreme Councilors, with the functions of the Head of the State, and a national council of 37 people, forming a government with Sulejman Delvina as Prime Minister and Ahmet Zogu as Interior Minister. One of the Congress’ decisions was the transfer of the Albanian capital city from Durres to Tirana.
