“Our big desire is to soon turn this project from the Mediterranean Film Week into the Vlora Mediterranean Film Festival,” says Istref Dobi, the project’s director

TIRANA, August 2 – Ten international movies, all of which produced during the past five years, are being screened in the southern city of Vlora as part of the Mediterranean Film Week which kicked off last Tuesday.
The movies participating in the festival include productions from Spain, France, Italy, Montenegro, Turkey, Greece, Egypt, Kosovo and Albania.
The open air event held in front of the local sports palace will bring two movies each night accompanied by live musical performances until August 6.
Istref Dobi, the project’s director, says that the goal of this event is to bring entertainment and enrich cultural life in the peak of tourist season as well as promote the contemporary achievements in the Mediterranean cinema.
“Our big desire is to soon turn this project from the Mediterranean Film Week into the Vlora Mediterranean Film Festival,” added Dobi.
The Mediterranean Film Week will also pay tribute to late Albanian actors and directors.
Well-known Albanian actors and directors such as Tinka Kurti, the Anagnosti and Xhuvani couples, Artan Minarolli etc. are participating in the film week.
The event is organized by the Vlora cultural centre and financed by Vlora Municipality to enrich cultural life in the southern coastal city, one of the most preferred tourist destinations in Albania.
Holidaymakers in Albania are also being entertained with open-air film screenings by the Albanian Central State Film Archive. The summer event is screening films at weekends in tourist destinations all over Albania.
The event bringing movies and documentaries in tourist sites will continue until the end of next August to close in Struga and Ohrid, Macedonia.
Elvira Diamanti, the director of the Central State Film Archive, says the project to take the movies to these tourist sites is aimed at filling the vacuum of cultural events in summer.
The short films and documentaries are also related to the sites where events are held
