TIRANA, March 10 – Albanian Defense Minister Fatmir Mediu visited London last week to lobby for maximum support for Albania receiving a membership invitation at the NATO summit in Bucharest next month.
British Defense Secretary Des Browne expressed his government’s support of Tirana’s hope and also pledged continuous support for the modernization of the Albanian army.
Mediu said that Albania considers NATO membership as the only way to assure continuing progress and democracy in southeastern Europe and the euro-Atlantic community.
“Albania’s role in the military mission in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Iraq has confirmed the professionalism of the armed forces and its active role in securing peace and stability in the globe’s hottest spots,” said Mediu.(Tirana Times Staff)
