TIRANA, Dec. 6 – President Alfred Moisiu organized on Wednesday in Tirana a consultative meeting titled “Reform in the courts, a joint challenge.” The meeting aimed at gathering ideas on how to improve the reforms in the judicial system and how to exchange opinions on its different elements. Personalities from the judiciary system took part in the meeting.
Moisiu said that the judiciary had become a concerning problem for the people, which was noted by many international institutions while assisting the country in its integration efforts into the European Union and NATO. The president said that improvements in the judiciary should be effected in three main pillars: legal improvements, organizational ones and increasing professional capacities. The president criticized efforts by the politicians in the country who have tried to consider the judiciary a “secondary power” governed by them. “The inappropriate influence of any form of politics Šhas an immediate negative effect to its independence, professionalism, impartiality, integrity and public trust,” he said. The judiciary had a lot to do to approximate itself with the legislation and organization of the European Union in which the country aims at getting integrated, he said. “The judiciary power should be not only independent but also trustful to the public,” he said.
