TIRANA, Nov. 24 – French virtuoso pianist Nicolas Cante will be in Albania next week performing in three cities as part of his Mekanik Kantatik, an uncommon project, deliciously mixing jazz music, pop, techno, improvisation and electronic around one character, a piano.
His Albania tour will start in Elbasan where he will perform on December 1. His second concert will be given in Shkodra on December 2 at the local Migjeni theatre before closing his Albania tour with a concert in Tirana at the Black Box of the Academy of Arts on Dec. 3.
“Virtuoso pianist, Nicolas Cante blurs the borders between the man and the machine, working to reconcile tradition and modernity in his music. In his pocket laboratory Mekanik Kantatik, surrounded with strange devices, with computers and piano, the man concocts fascinating, experimental but accessible melodies, which transform every concert into a real artistic performance,” says France’s Saba productions.
A prepared piano… The pianist, ‘human robot,’ plays with keyboard, ropes, wood and iron with laptop and sensors in a construction that makes the live a dancing-moving time, halfway between the electronics of machines and the organic of the instrument.
Mekanik Kantatik, cabaret and concert for disturbed piano, is played in several places and festivals around the world, meeting the contemporary practices in new collaborations. The first album “Sounds from my piano” was released in 2009 (DFragment Music/ La Baleine).
Improvised creation, Mekanik Kantatik is a game in which are included singing, live sounds and electronic orchestration. The revisited, futuristic instrument delivers a fascinated and groovy flow.
