More Electric power in first half of year

TIRANA, Aug 18 – The Institute of Statistics has published data regarding power during the first half of the year.
It noted that in the first six months of 2008 the total sources providing electric power had sharply increased by 13.2 percent compared with the same period last year.
Additionally, domestic production of electric power increased by 22.7 percent compared with the first semi-year 2007. In the first half-year 2008, total domestic production reached 1,990 GWh and made up 57.3 percent of the total sources of electric power.
Hydro plant production grew by 26.3 percent, accounting for the main impact on growth of the total domestic production. Hydro power plant production during this half year made up 98 percent of total domestic production.
Further, the production of energy by concession and private plants increased by 14.1 percent compared with the same period in the previous year. Thermo plants during the first six months of 2008 did not have any production.
Import (including exchanges) of electric power increased by 2.6 percent compared with the first six months of 2007. The imported quantity (including exchanges) is 1,482 GWh and composes 42.7 percent of the total quantity during first part of 2008 from 47.1 percent that had made up the first half of 2007.
Total losses in the network were at the same level compared with the period of the previous year. The quantity of total losses in the first half-year 2008 is 1,155 GWh. These made up 33.3 percent of the quantity available for final use. Losses in distribution consist of 91 percent of the total losses in network.
Consumption by users has increase by 13.3 percent compared with the first half of 2007. Also, the quantity attained 2,097 GWh and made up 60.4 percent of the total electric power available for use. Electric power consumed in the residential sector rose by 10.9 percent compared with the quantity consumed in the first half-year 2007. This sector had consumed 56.8 percent of the quantity available for all final users. Electric power consumed by other users increased by 16.7 percent in the first half of 2008. (Tirana Times Staff)
