Mortgage officials arrested for corruption

TIRANA, Feb. 27 – Police reported that four mortgage officials and two other interior ministry staff were recently arrested on corruption charges. In a police operation codenamed Furtuna (Storm), police arrested Artan Mehmeti, 41, Ramiz Hykaj, 42, Enton Babameto, 33, and Veiz Senko, 55. Those arrested had all worked at a Tirana mortgage office. Dali Hakorja, 52, working at the internal audit office, and Halil Hima, 47, a resident, were also arrested for falsifying documents and charged with corruption. The case began after a citizen asked police to open a corruption case against the accused on charges of illegally registering properties on behalf of others.
