TIRANA, July 5 – A mono-drama dedicated to Mother Teresa’s teenage years has been selected to represent Albania in the “Actor of Europe” theatre festival which is being held on the shores of Lake Prespa, in neighboring Macedonia from July 6 to 11.
The monodrama called “Pikellin dhe dashuri” (Grief and Love) will star Albanian young actress Klodiana Kadillari who depicts Mother Teresa’s teenage years– from 14 to 18 years old– just before young Agnes Gonxhe Bojaxhiu decided to leave her parental home in Skopje and join the Sisters of Loreto, an Irish community of nuns with missions in India.
Actress Klodiana Kadillari had also performed the Mother Teresa role in last year’s youth theatre festival. She has also played the young Mother Teresa role in a documentary by late Kosovo director Fahri Hysaj.
Last April, the mono-drama also represented Albania in the Mono-Act international festival held in the Kosovo town of Peja.
Last year, Albania marked the 100th anniversary of Mother Teresa’s birth with a series of cultural events.
The world famous nun of Albanian origin was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace, and in 1985 she received the Medal of Freedom from the United States. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 19 October 2003, placing her one step from sainthood in the Catholic faith.
Each year from July 6 to 11, on the shores of Lake Prespa, regional actors perform in the International Theatre Festival “Actor of Europe.” In the traditional spirit of cultural cooperation between Macedonia, Albania and Greece, the opening of the festival is held in the three languages that are spoken in the Prespa Lake– Macedonian, Albanian and Greek– which symbolizes the removal of borders around the lake, organizers say. The festival is held outdoors in the beautiful setting of a court of Sarai in Resen (House of Culture).
